Let us introduce ourselves, we are Katie and Chloe – YOURgb’s newest recruits, taking on the roles of Event Administrators! We both graduated in 2020, one with an Events degree and the other with a Sociology and Business Management degree (and currently working through / almost finished an Events Masters – wahoo). It was a challenging time as we finished our dissertations on a random Wednesday in our pyjamas, without a ceremony or party – thank you COVID! We therefore both celebrated in our own unique ways, one with an ice cream van and the other on top of a hill…exciting stuff.

Graduating during a pandemic was never on our to-do list and with that brought a lot of uncertainty, especially with an incredibly competitive job market (LinkedIn is an intimidating place!). As with many 2020 graduates, our inner critic made us doubt ourselves. What if we can’t find a job? How long is the industry going to take to recover? Mentally having to deal with these questions that no-one could answer was challenging alongside the awkward response from others, “Yikes! You want to go into events? Now?”. Nevertheless, there was hope when we saw the following post, “YOURgb ARE HIRING!”.

Seeing how YOURgb amplified online and hybrid events, such as The Massive Get Together and Pride of TSB, alongside their impressive portfolio of live events, we knew we wanted to be involved. Therefore, it was a no-brainer to apply and here we are writing our first blog (and we can finally update our LinkedIn profiles)!

Our first impressions of YOURgb were extremely positive. They are a small but mighty group of passionate thinkers who care about each other and the work that they produce. We instantly felt welcomed and at home in their instagrammable office! The team go above and beyond in every respect, even with YOURgb birthdays…

So far, we have been involved in our first online event, assisted with event installs, contributed to proposals and attended our first staff party! We have also been able to observe the strong relationship built with clients and how talented the team are at bringing their client’s vision to life. This is something we are both looking forward to getting involved with and we look forward to the future when we are working on live events.

Overall, we have learnt that being a graduate is difficult; add on a pandemic and it is very difficult! Yet we know we are not alone and as with all events, when something goes off-script, you adapt – just as YOURgb did! We can both agree that being welcomed into the team has allowed us to acknowledge just how far we have come, and we look forward to continuing to conquer the event industry in new and innovative ways.
